Susan has been a psychotherapist / counselor for over 18 years and a substance abuse / addictions specialist for over 30 years . Her graduate school studies included critical incident stress management, individual crisis intervention and peer support.
Susan’s overriding goal for all her work is to help clients achieve a sense of wellbeing, peace and happiness. In addition, she is goal oriented, dedicated, and passionate about helping her clients resolve problems, weaknesses, losses and roadblocks. Partnering with her clients in a discovery process, she helps them overcome fears, anxieties, and perceived weaknesses. Susan’s clients almost always experience gains in self-esteem, optimism, and feelings of empowerment, which often translates to feeling emotionally free.
Coming to us with a diverse background, Susan has worked in inpatient, intensive outpatient, dual diagnosis, a multi-systemic therapy center, and private practice settings. She has provided group, individual, couples/marriage counseling and family therapy to both adults and adolescents. Aside from her specialty areas, Susan provides effective counseling services for a variety of challenges and disorders.
Susan specialties include anxiety, depression and panic disorder as well as other mental health concerns. She provides specialized psychotherapeutic / counseling services that include grief and loss, upsetting or overwhelming life changes or transitions, as well as relationship and communication challenges and trauma resolution. As a result of her grief and bereavement focus, her clients are able to safely and supportively work through various losses such as job, career, loved ones, physical capabilities, and relationship(s). Surviving infidelity is another grief and loss specialty of Susan’s.
Susan helps her clients overcome negative thoughts by neutralizing their destructive impact. She works hard in helping her clients cast away or replace unhealthy and self-defeating thought-patterns while practicing self-empowerment and positive and realistic thought patterns.
With regard to her anxiety and depression specialties, Susan helps her clients establish healthy diversions, tension releasers, improved communication abilities and better overall self-care. She also helps them develop and master more effective coping and problem-solving skills, while improving their boundary and relationship abilities.
