I believe in the human spirit and our natural capacity to grow, heal and overcome limitations and challenges. I am dedicated to facilitating authentic and safe therapeutic relationships with my clients. My goal is to provide my clients with an atmosphere where they can feel secure enough to risk being vulnerable while mustering up the courage to overcome their own obstacles.
My professional experience includes an outpatient wellness clinic, a behavioral health hospital as well as private practice. In all of these positions, including my current position, I have provided psychotherapy to clients as young as 5 years old and on into older-adulthood. Despite personalizing my services to each client, all my work facilities optimism, self-worth, empowerment and mastery over the problems that compelled them to seek my help in the beginning.
My commitment to professional growth compels me to stay up-to-date and sufficiently trained in the latest research-based methods and techniques. Independent of my eclectic theoretical and practical orientation, I meet my clients where they are, tune into what they need, and work hard to help them solve the problems that originally brought them to me. My therapy style is best summed up as collaborative, supportive, goal oriented, and, of course, empathic.
I utilize Person Centered Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Mindfulness-based practices (MBCT). Additionally, I provide culturally sensitive therapy to help clients from various ethnicities, religions, sexualities and principles.
I am trained in Play Therapy, which is ideal for younger children. This treatment modality helps non-verbal children express their pent-up emotions and thoughts so that they can overcome the problems that are related to them. Similarly, I rely on my Art Therapy background with clients of all ages when words may be difficult to find or too painful to verbalize. Both forms of psychotherapy help my clients express themselves, resolve inner emotional turmoil, and, ultimately, overcome the dysfunctional power it has over them.
I specialize in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and other mood challenges, as well as trauma. Trauma resolution requires me to earn my clients respect and trust, while facilitating feelings of safety and courage, both of which are necessary for them to unshackle themselves from the past while moving forward to reclaim their lives.
I provide perinatal counseling for challenges with pregnancy, infertility, in vitro fertilization (IVF), pre-term delivery, pregnancy loss, fetal anomaly, and postpartum mood. I understand and feel compassion and empathy for a woman's journey through conception, pregnancy, childbirth, and child rearing. This is a phase of life that can be filled with joy, but for many it is consumed with worry, isolation, confusion, anger, and sadness.
I help my teen clients to better understand the strange, overwhelming, and ever-changing world in which they live. I assist them in strengthening their oft-times fragile self-esteems, fears of the future, and feelings of insignificance and worthlessness. I never take for granted their trust in me to help make them healthier, happier and more confident. I relish the opportunity to be a co-pilot in this special growth-phase of their lives as they explore their evolving identity and gain the ability to be confident, self-accepting young adults.
